FREEPORT IN THE NEWSDozens of businesses take part in the Freeport Chocolate Festival
Wilbur's of Maine let attendees make their own D.I.Y. chocolate medallions with the option of adding several different toppings. FREEPORT, Maine --The Freeport Chamber of Commerce hosted the fourth annual Freeport Chocolate Festival. Businesses that opted in offered tasty treats and deals on their products. One of the headliners for the event was Wilbur's of Maine. Attendees got to make their own DIY chocolate medallions with the option of adding several different toppings. AdvertisementJacob Murphy got to see how the chocolate is made and decorate a medallion for himself. “We had a business last year that participated in the chocolate Festival, and they said that it was their best day in March in ten years," said Tawni Whitney, the executive director at Freeport Chamber of Commerce. "We represent what is iconic about Maine, from the pine trees to the lobstering to our adorable downtown.” Some businesses aren't candy-focused. The Freeport Oyster Bar took part with drink specials and kelp fudge. The fudge is made by Kathe Welle from What The Actual Fudge located in the Maine Mall. She says it's an unusual pairing that works well. “We live in a place where we don't even understand that we can taste the sea in the air. So the sea should be very familiar to us, and kelp tastes just like the sea. So you bring that flavor into something sweet and it's a good mix,” Welle said. PTC Tech Comes to the Downeaster |
